I loved being taken on Oliver's Paris journey from being a newbie to someone whose five years in the city allowed him to be able to speak the language, navigate the city, and form friendships with those who were Paris natives as well as those from other areas of France. Some of his experiences were very comical and I enjoyed his honesty in admitting his "goofs", which shows a person who is comfortable with himself! (If you've ever seen one of Oliver's youtubes you will see that he is very personable). He was so open to learning from everyone... his basketball buddies, shopkeepers, neighbors, and strangers he met in Paris and throughout France (while on his honeymoon with Lina). I also enjoyed his love story with his Swedish bride...what a cute couple. This book is just fun for someone who has been to Paris (one brief visit for me) and can't wait to return after covid. Oliver really makes you feel like you are living in the city and I hope that he will continue to explore the non-tourist side and write another book. I chose this for our our book club as a French teacher who works in Paris in the summer and not able to go this summer due to Covid. I wanted to read something that would take me back to my Paris days and make up for what I'm missing this summer. Thank you Oliver, for your insight and openness. Our book club has enjoyed reading about your adventures and many of us can relate, as we have also lived abroad at some point in our lives.
